I’ve come over all British today. Not in a Union Jack, UKIP, curry and chips, Austin Healey, bicycle clips, knotted handkerchief, pint of mild, how's yer farver, Hawker Hurricane, any old iron, Bobby Moore sort of way. But musically. Again, not in a George Formby, Anne Shelton, Jess Conrad, Helen Shapiro, Frankie Vaughn, Wee Willie Harris, Don Lang & His Frantic Five way either. Rather in a Frederick Delius, George Butterworth, Vaughan Williams kind of way. So that’s who I’ll be taking to the studio for a spot of accompaniment.

So not in a 'Jumpers for goalposts' sort of way.
Elgar seems to be missing from your list.-

Not Roy of the Rovers either. Elgar was missing it's true. Maybe I'll give him a spin today. 'Going for a spin', now that's an expression you don't here much anymore.

The Sunday afternoon jaunt into the countryside in the car being a thing of the past. As indeed is the Sunday morning ritual of washing the aforementioned car, and drying it off with the newly aquired chamois from Halfords.

You're right. I've got a chamois from Halfords somewhere, albeit a synthetic one. Can't remember the last time I used it.

The best thing about a chamois, for me, was the smell.
-
- 2009-06-19 @ 15:01:53
Like a wet chamois perhaps?

More the smell of a brand spanking new one. Thats why Halfords is remembered.

Talking of shop smells, as a kid I used to like the smell of our local hardware store in Woolston. But it was a smell common to hardware stores, not that I could tell you what it was. It's not the same at B&Q that I do know.

I remember a shop like that in Scunthorpe where I grew up. I think it's waxed paper, with a bit of grease or oil.

With a hint of Esso Blue perhaps.

And a leaky tin of Redex perhaps?
