Only visited briefly a couple of years ago to get a train back to Frankfurt, so am grateful for the description. My niece was there when the wall came down. she says it was 'electric', I think she still has a bit of the wall that she uses as a doorstop.

I can't remember if they reacted, but many people do. In the States it tends to be something like - 'Oh wow, far out, that's a really cool name. Is it real or did ya change it?' To which the only reply is - 'No old boy, it's pucka don't you know. Toodle ooh, pip pip, tally ho'.

I can't help but feel a slight twinge of sadness at all the former shops, restaurants, businesses etc. that have all been sent down the Swannee by globalized capitalism, but at the same time that's the system that America chose for itself so I suppose I shouldn't. Things are going the same way here too and it won't be too many years before the last of the high-street independents close down to leave nothing but charity shops and national chains in the towns and shopping "villages" out of the towns. *sigh*

Strange thing about all that weather was that it didn't rain. Well, not much anyway and not on us. When we got to Wilcox that night I had a conversation with a Harley rider who had ridden through the same storm through the 'dry corridor' without getting wet. I stole the Moses analogy from him.
